Clean, soft, glowing skin with the face ritual East African women have trusted for generations. One powder, no chemicals, nothing to hide.

Gaba, known in the Horn of Africa as Qasil, is made from the dried, finely ground leaves of the wild Gaba tree (Ziziphus spina-christi). Across Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea it has been the everyday face wash of grandmothers, mothers and daughters long before bottled cleansers existed. We source it directly from East Africa and bring it to you exactly as it is meant to be: 100% pure leaf powder.

What one jar of Gaba does for you

  • ✓ Deep, gentle cleanse: natural saponins foam lightly and lift dirt, oil and makeup without stripping your skin.
  • ✓ Smoother texture: the fine powder works as a soft exfoliant to buff away dull, dead skin.
  • ✓ Balanced, less oily skin: helps control shine and keeps pores looking clearer.
  • ✓ That natural glow: skin looks brighter, fresher and more even after just one mask.
  • ✓ Calm, comfortable skin: a traditional choice for sensitive and blemish-prone skin.
  • ✓ 3-in-1 value: use it as a daily cleanser, a weekly face mask and a body scrub.
  • ✓ Clean ingredient list: one ingredient. No fragrance, no preservatives, no fillers.

A beauty secret from Ethiopia and East Africa

For centuries, Gaba has been part of Ethiopian and East African beauty rituals: a pre-wedding glow treatment for brides, and the simple daily wash that kept skin clear in a hot, dusty climate. At Grmawit we bring that same heritage to your bathroom, sourced from where it originally grows.

How to use

  1. Daily cleanser: mix 1 teaspoon of powder with a little water in your palm until it forms a light paste. Massage onto damp skin, then rinse.
  2. Face mask: mix 1–2 tablespoons with water, rose water or yoghurt to a smooth paste. Apply, leave for 10–15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.
  3. Boost it: add a pinch of our Erd Turmeric Skin Powder or a few drops of honey for extra glow.

Ingredients

100% ground Gaba / Qasil leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi).

Good to know

Our story

An ancient East-african ritual, originally sourced from Eritrea.

Long before bottled cleansers and boxed hair dyes, women across Eritrea and East Africa cared for their skin and hair with what the land gave them: Gaba leaves, golden Erd root and Henna.

These rituals were passed from grandmother to mother to daughter, and used before weddings, holidays and every important day. At Grmawit we source them from where they originally grow and bring that heritage to you, pure and unchanged.

Questions, answered

Is it really 100% natural?

Yes. Each powder is one single plant ingredient, finely milled. No fragrance, preservatives, dyes or fillers are added.

Where does it come from?

All three powders are originally sourced from East Africa and rooted in Ethiopian beauty traditions that go back generations.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

These rituals are traditionally used on all skin types, but every skin is different. Always do a patch test 24–48 hours before first use.

How long does one pouch last?

You only need a small amount per treatment, so one jar lasts for many masks, washes or hair treatments.

Can I combine the powders?

Yes. You can mix Gaba and Erd for a cleansing and glow mask in one, and use Henna for your weekly hair ritual.
